When you hear the word “shine” what do you think of?
Did you just start singing “this little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine” or maybe you think of diamonds or even the sun. When I asked Dave, he said “shoe shine.” Ha! When I hear the word “shine” there’s a sense of comfort and peace that comes over me like feeling the warm sun shining on your face after a long cold winter.
I couldn’t get the word SHINE out of my mind so I googled it and by definition it is a “source of light” or “to give out a bright light.” A few synonyms of shine are radiate, sparkle, twinkle, glitter, and shimmer. After reading this, it all made sense to me why I grew up singing, “this little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.”
Our bodies are the “source” and the “light” is the Holy Spirit. When we accept the invitation to follow Jesus and invite the Holy Spirit to dwell within us, we are to shine God’s light here on earth. What we “give out” is what we’re putting into our bodies. Are you putting in God’s Word so that you can give out words of life and encouragement to others? Or are you putting in things of this world that have no eternal value and feeling like you’re in the darkness when you do so?
I want to encourage you that you were made to shine God’s light and truth in the darkness.
We live in such a dark time where people need extra light in their lives. I want to encourage you that you were made to shine God’s light and truth in the darkness.
John 1:5 says, “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Girl, your light can outshine any darkness! You can’t hide a light that’s lit in a dark room. I found it so interesting that as my children got closer to their toy flashlight, their shadows grew larger. As you grow closer to the “Light of the World,” your impact on this world will be so much greater! Think about that for a minute…even as the world is living in darkness, God’s light can shine through you so that others can see.
Shine bright, shine far, shine right where you are!
Sending my love,
Gayle
Truth for Today
“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.” Philippians 2:14-16
