Arrows.

Did you know the Bible refers to children as arrows?

Psalm 127:4 says, “like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children born of one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.”

When our children are raised in the ways of the Lord, God uses them as arrows to defeat the enemy just like arrows in the hands of a warrior. It is our responsibility to get our arrow ready for battle.

When shooting a bow and arrow, there are a few things to keep in mind. You need to have sharp arrows, a bow (and strength to pull that bow back), and a target. Just like parenting: your children are the arrows, your parenting is the bow and a life lived for God is the target.

How are you sharpening your arrows in preparation for battle?

Here are a few things we’re doing (click the image below for our list of favorite books):

Are you strengthening your “bow” by surrounding yourself with other Christian parents, reading what the Word of God says about parenting, and gaining all the wisdom you can in regards to bringing up your children in the ways of the Lord?

Finally, when sending out an arrow, you need to aim at a target. Do you have a clear vision where are you aiming to send out your arrow? You are guiding them in which direction to fly after they leave your quiver and bow. It’s tough to say but arrows aren’t meant to be kept in your quiver. They’re meant to be sent out.

Set your stance, one eye closed for accuracy, calm your heart, pull back, deep breath, aim, and release towards our bullseye – Jesus Christ.

Sending my love,

Gayle
