“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:21. The first time I really thought deeper about this verse was at a growth class our church held years ago. I have the power of life and death in my tongue? Wow, I had never thought about my words in this way.
Have you considered how this verse applies when you’re parenting, or talking to your co-workers or your husband?
We practice in our home to speak, “it’s going to be a great day” even before we eat breakfast. Somedays I may not feel like it will be but the power of those words can change the mood. It’s fun to now hear Hudson, our 4 year old, often say it when the day begins.
You can bring so much life to your children just through your words, or you can bring the opposite. Want to see your relationship with your boss, co-workers or husband flourish? Speak life over them and watch what God does. You have life-changing power in your tongue, use it wisely. We are called to “encourage one another and build each other up.” Encourage others and you too will be encouraged.
I’m challenging you to use your words to bring life and not death. Words that build others up.
Ask the Lord to help you keep watch over the words that come out of your mouth like Psalm 141:3 says; “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.” He will.
Sending my love,
Gayle
